Curie Lodge in Enfield was a beautiful old Victorian villa, which once formed part of the Northern Hospital for patients with contagious diseases. Buxton Building Contractors Limited recreated this magnificent building in all its original glory in order to create nine fabulous new apartments. As well as closely replicating this 19th Century Queen Anne Style building with special red and yellow Cradley handmade bricks, it was important that all of the windows and doors were also of the right period appearance.
With over 25 years’ experience in the manufacturing of bespoke heritage windows, our partners TRC Contracts was the logical choice and we were delighted to be appointed by Buxton Building Contractors Limited. We were asked to survey the site, then to design, supply and install 78 bespoke new “like for like” heritage sash windows with our classic solid glazing bars and putty fronting for this amazing project.
Our windows are renowned for their period detail and amazing appearance but also for the modern benefits that they bring to any building project. With superb thermal insulation and acoustic performance, they not only look the part with traditional styling but also exceed modern standards of window performance. Additionally, our Tilt and Slide sash windows conceal clever functionality as both sashes actually tilt inwards. This means that the external panes can be cleaned from inside the building, which makes window cleaning easier, safer and less expensive.
All of our ground-floor windows and doors supplied are also compliant to PAS24:2012 security standards and achieve Secured by Design accreditation, meaning the new owners can sleep safe and sound in the knowledge that their property is well protected against burglary and any attempts at illegal access.
The project went extremely well and, as you can see on the related pictures, the new building looks amazing and we are delighted to have contributed our window and door expertise and specialist products to this prestigious project.
